Jera Rune
Harvest, Cycles, and Rewards
Jera Rune in the Poetic Edda
Jera is the rune of natural cycles and the changing of seasons. You cannot force a harvest to grow in winter, and you cannot force the snow not to melt in spring.
In this stanza, Odin clearly illustrates this wisdom, reminding us that nature and time follow their own rhythm, and premature expectations can be deceiving.
Hávamál, Stanza 88:
“Akri ársánum
trúi engi maðr
né til snemma syni,
— veðr ræðr akri.
en vit syni;
hætt er þeira hvárt.”
An early-sown field
let no man trust,
nor too soon in a son,
— the weather rules the field,
and wit the son;
each of them is a risk.
General Meaning of the Jera Rune
The rune consists of two stylized crescents rotating around a common axis. They are connected with Freyr and Freyja and their power of fertility, which yields a rich harvest. Consequently, Jera represents the natural cycles of life, reminding us that efforts lead to a reward. It symbolizes growth, abundance, and the fruits of labor.
Furthermore, this rune encourages patience and trust in the process. Like the changing of the seasons, it teaches that hard work and perseverance will ultimately bring results. In addition, Jera is also a symbol of justice and adherence to the requirements of the law.
Reading the Jera Rune
Upright Position
Prosperity, success, reward after efforts, abundance, cyclical movement.
Reversed Position
Jera has no reversed form. Because the symbol is completely symmetrical and balanced in its design, this rune is non-reversible.
Jera Rune in Love and Relationships
In love, do not rush to conclusions! Give it some time to better understand your own feelings and to allow them to “grow.”
Jera Rune in Career and Finance
In career readings, the rune signifies profit from long-standing investments. For instance, it can predict a new job offer that will require you to recall your old skills. However, sometimes it indicates that the questioner is worried about a certain court case, and it does not always resolve favorably.
