Perthro Rune in the Poetic Edda
Perthro is the rune of “mystery” in the most sacred sense: it represents the bringing of hidden knowledge to light, working with the subconscious, and peering behind the veil of destiny.
Stanza 111 perfectly conveys this state. Odin describes himself on the “chanter’s stool”, where he silently peered into the mysteries of the world, listened to the thoughts of men, and learned the hidden runes. Therefore, this is the purest image of the unfolding of Perthro — a transition from the silent contemplation of the subconscious to the acquisition of hidden knowledge.

þular stóli á

hlýdda ek á manna mál;
